AOWIS – Afritic Open Water Infrastructure System

AOWIS (Afritic Open Water Infrastructure System) is an open system for designing, modelling, operating, and maintaining safe and reliable water and irrigation infrastructure.

It provides a common foundation for infrastructure modelling, monitoring, control, automation, data exchange, engineering practice, and day-to-day operation. AOWIS combines an open technical standard with open-source software, reference implementations, engineering knowledge, operational guidance, and training.

The AOWIS Standard forms the normative core of the system. AOWIS is intended for use by communities, utilities, organizations, and other operators of water infrastructure, while remaining practical under difficult conditions such as intermittent connectivity, unreliable power, limited technical resources, and the need for local autonomous operation.
